Welcome to Ask Alec.

My name is Alec Houle, and I’ve been cleaning carpets, upholstery, and fine textiles since 1962. In 1970 I started Alec’s Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning LLC, and for more than five decades I’ve helped homeowners throughout Greater Boston, MetroWest, the South Shore, and Cape Cod care for their furnishings.

Over those years, I’ve answered thousands of questions. Some were simple. Others required careful judgment. And more than a few times, the best answer I could give was, “You don’t need my services right now.”

I created Ask Alec to share the same honest, practical advice I’ve been giving my customers for over 60 years. These articles aren’t written to sell you anything.
